BROCKWAY, Pa. -- We have an update to an apartment building fire out of Jefferson County.
On January 29th, a fire tore through Toby Terrace Apartments in Brockway leaving 15 people without a home.
Fortunately all of those people had places to go after being forced out. Thursday we learned they will soon be back in their apartments.
Our cameras captured a restoration company working at Building B of the complex Thursday afternoon.
Fire Department officials say they 16-unit building was damaged by smoke after one of the units filled with flames. Right now the cause of the fire is still under investigation but the Jefferson County Housing Authority says those who live here will soon be back.
"The fire alarm system and the building has been inspected to deem it safe. We still want to make sure all the apartments are clean and decontaminated," says Steve Mehok, Deputy Executive Director of the Jefferson County Housing Authority.
Mehoks says people who live on the first floor will be moving back Saturday, February 6th. Those who live on the second floor will move back in Saturday, February 13th. Mehok says they can't move in until later due to the heavier smoke damage.
Since the fire, everyone has had a place to stay.
"We've received great assistance from the Red Cross and the majority of people are staying with family members," says Mehok.
Damage to the building is estimated at about $40,000.
Housing Authority leaders say it's been a group effort to get everyone back into their apartments as quickly as possible.
