The second annual Senator for a Day event was held at Saint Francis University Thursday morning.

Students from 11 high schools in the 35th Senatorial District had the opportunity to get first-hand experience of how the legislative process works.

Students divide into Senate committees to discuss bills, take positions and draft bills before presenting them.

Students had a chance to debate, have different viewpoints and amend their bills, and the bill that passes goes before the full "mock Senate" which is when everyone would gather in the auditorium.

Senator Wayne Langerholc said it's important for students to see the many different careers that can come out of the political process.

He said, "It's good to see the different components and all the different types of careers that can really come out of the political process. Sometimes you think running for office or being a legislator is the only path, but there's really a lot of support and a lot of different ancillary capacities."

Langerholc said invitations were sent out to schools in the 35th district but he hopes to grow the program in the future.
