CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Centre County say a Penn State University staff member is facing DUI-related charges after she nearly crashed into a Spring Township police cruiser in December.
According to the affidavit, police say 41-year-old Annahelen Barone was reportedly driving erratically along South Water Street, on the night of Dec. 29th.
Police say an on-duty Spring Township police officer witnessed Barone's black Subaru continually crossing into the opposite lane of travel before she nearly collided with his cruiser.
Authorities say during the resulting traffic stop, Barone reportedly told the officer that she was returning from an "apartment party."
Police say Barone showed visible signs of impairment, including "glossy eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on her breath."
The officer noted that she also had trouble maintaining her balance and was "leaning" on her car to stay upright.
Following a failed field sobriety test and a positive breathalyzer test, police say Barone was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for a blood draw.
Police say the results of the blood draw determined that Barone had a BAC of 0.251%, which is over three times the legal limit.
According to Penn State's staff directory, Barone is listed as the "Director of Student Care & Advocacy" at the University Park campus.

The University is aware of these charges against a staff member and takes these matters seriously. As this is a personnel matter, we cannot comment further.According to online court records, Barone is charged with multiple counts of DUI and one summary traffic citation.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 3rd.
