Johnstown city officials 'hopeful' to have new grocery store opened downtown following closure of Id

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Ideal Market in Johnstown closed earlier this summer, leaving the downtown area without a grocery store, but city officials say replacing the store is a top priority. 6 News spoke with city officials about how they say they are taking steps toward bringing a grocery store back to the downtown area. Officials say the new store will not be an Ideal Market but say they're looking to replace the business as quickly as possible.

Richland Holiday Inn Express sold, owners announce

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Officials with Pasquerilla Enterprises announced Thursday that the Holiday Inn Express and Suites, located along Scalp Ave. in Richland, has been sold. "The Holiday Inn Express & Suites has served the community since 1986 and we are very proud of the rebuild and grand reopening in 2016. We are encouraged by the buyers and their willingness to invest in the hospitality industry in Greater Johnstown," said Mark Pasquerilla, Chairman & CEO of Pasquerilla Enterprises.

Lawmakers press investigation into DEI agenda at the Pentagon

A coalition of lawmakers is pushing forward the ongoing investigation into just how much taxpayer money Pentagon officials are taking away from national defense and putting toward diversity, equity and inclusivity initiatives. The Pentagon has been under increasing scrutiny for itsfocus on DEI, even as the Ukraine-Russia and Israel-Hamas wars continue. The lawmakers sent a letter to the Defense Advisory Committee on Diversity and Inclusion Chair General (Ret.) Lester Lyles expressing concerns that the focus on DEI was a distraction and was hurting recruitment.

Local company helping repair flags at Johnstown Inclined Plane

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — A Cambria County company is lending a hand to make sure the American Flag stays waving above Johnstown’s Inclined Plane. Three flags that were above the Inclined Plane are being repaired by seamstresses at Martin-Baker America. People working on the flags say there are tears on them because of strong winds. Those involved say they're also going to try and strengthen another flag that had some weaker areas.
