Johnstown Christmas tree assembled in Central Park

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Johnstown's Central Park. With snow falling down, crews arrived around 8 a.m. Tuesday to begin building the frame of the Christmas tree. The final product is 36 feet tall and will be topped with a 4-foot star. The tree draws thousands of people throughout the holiday season. Organizers say it's a way to boost holiday spirit in the city and maybe even start new traditions.

North Korea's trash rains down onto South Korea, balloon by balloon. Here's what it means

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Manure. Cigarette butts. Scraps of cloth. Waste batteries. Even, reportedly, diapers. This week, North Korea floated hundreds of huge balloons to dump all of that trash across rival South Korea — an old-fashioned, Cold War-style provocation that the country has rarely used in recent years. The powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un confirmed Wednesday that North Korea sent the balloons and attached trash sacks.

Pirates top pitching prospect Paul Skenes to begin 2024 season in Triple-A

PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Pirates top pitching prospect Paul Skenes will reportedly begin the 2024 season with the organization's Triple-A affiliate, the Indianapolis Indians, team GM Ben Cherington told reporters Monday. Earlier this month, the team announced that Skenes would begin the season in the minor leagues, but did not specify whether it would be in Double-A or Triple-A. Skenes was drafted by Pittsburgh last year as the number one overall pick in the MLB amateur draft, just weeks after he helped guide the LSU Tigers to a collegiate National Baseball Championship.
