DEP fines gas company $1.1M for 2022 Cambria County leak

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a $1.1 million fine against Equitrans gas company for violations related to the 2022 gas leak at their storage facility in Cambria County. In early November of 2022, many residents in Jackson Township heard what sounded like a large jet engine nearby. Officials say that sound was determined to be the venting of natural gas at the Rager Mountain storage site owned and operated by Equitrans Midstream.

Moneyman to hold Easter Egg Hunt in Windber this weekend

Police: Missing Brookville man found

UPDATE |Jefferson Co., PA (WJAC) — Brookville Borough Police say Trevor Peterson has been located. No further details surrounding his disappearance have been provided. ORIGINAL | Brookville Borough police are asking for the public's help in locating a local business owner who has been reported missing. Police say a welfare check was conducted Thursday afternoon for Trevor Peterson and he has been entered as a missing person as of Friday morning.

UChicago anti-Israel encampment asks for Plan B, HIV test donations

CHICAGO (TND) — A pro-Palestine organization at the University of Chicago asked Thursday for the public to donate a long list of items to aid campus protesters, including birth control, HIV tests and Vaseline. UChicago United for Palestine, which describes itself as a coalition "committed to Palestinian liberation," is the driving force behind days worth of anti-Israel demonstrations at the University of Chicago. Thursday marked the fourth day of the group's encampment on UChicago's main quad.

UPJ mourns passing of former standout wrestler Leo Feist

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown is mourning the loss of one of its former standout athletes. Leo Feist, a former NCAA regional champion, passed away last Sunday at the age of 60. Feist, a Cambria County native, graduated from Conemaugh Valley High School and went on to become a four-year starter at UPJ. Feist was a member of the Mountain Cats' 1982 Regional Championship team.
