Invasive insect species threatens PA multi-billion dollar industries

STATE COLLEGE - An invasive insect species from China continues to grow in population size and it's causing big concerns for our local agriculture. Scientists said the Lantern Fly is a massive threat to Pennsylvania and Penn State is helping to spearhead control efforts. It was first discovered in Pennsylvania in 2014 in Berks County. It can now be found in 13 different counties. While central PA has not been affected, scientists say it could be only a matter of time.

Pa. launches new restaurant inspection app

YORK, Pa (WJAC) — The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture announced on Wednesday the launch of a new mobile app, available for both Apple and Android users, that will allow potential restaurant customers to have full access to state health inspection reports for any restaurants they are considering for a meal. The EatSafePA app provides users with complete access to thousands of restaurant and retail food establishment inspection reports, including violations and inspector comments, allowing consumers to dine with peace of mind.

Wanted woman arrested for drug possession at Blair Co. motel

BLAIR CO, Pa (WJAC) — Logan Township police say a wanted Altoona woman is behind bars after she was found in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia at a Blair County motel. Police say on Sept. 26, officers were dispatched to the Cedar Grove Motel after receiving information about a wanted individual staying there. Police identified the wanted individual as 32-year-old Brittany Gardner, who initially provided police with her sister's name.
