98-year-old Marine veteran in hospice care finally receives his high school diploma

POOLESVILLE, Md. (WJLA) — A nearly 100-year-old Marine veteran in hospice Friday was hand-delivered the high school diploma he never received. 98-year-old Richard Remp was unable to get his diploma back in the 1940s because he dropped out at age 17 to serve in World War II, then Korea, and then Vietnam. But he savored the remarkable moment Friday. Remp, who goes by "Gunny" since he was a decorated gunnery sergeant in Vietnam, has been in hospice care at home since doctors discovered stage four cancer throughout his body after he fell a few weeks ago.

Conemaugh Township EMS kicks off National EMS Week with education sessions

The Conemaugh Township EMS team hosted experts from the Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center to discuss carbon monoxide emergencies and stop the bleed training Monday evening. Located in Somerset County, Conemaugh Township EMS officials say they held their educational event to kick off national EMS week. Officials say the lecture session aimed to refresh local medical professionals on issues facing their community. It featured two informational sessions led by emergency physicians from Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.

Four boys hurt in roof collapse in Rhode Island

Gang member behind bars indicted years after woman, 21, shot to death outside nightclub

EVERETT, Mass. (TND) — The cold case of a 21-year-old woman shot to death nearly a decade ago has been solved, according to police and the district attorney, who announced criminal charges. They did not announce an arrest since Henry “J.R.” Del-Rio has been in trouble since the shooting outside a nightclub in Massachusetts on Aug. 13, 2015. Authorities said Del-Rio “randomly fired a gun over and over in a crowded parking lot” and “Ashlee Berryman, a completely innocent victim, was caught in a hail of gunfire and lost her life.

Seven Points Campground now open for the season

HUNTINGDON CO., Pa. (WJAC) — Seven Points Campground at Raystown Lake in Huntingdon County is open for the season. The lake's camping season runs from the first weekend of April until the last full weekend of October. According to park rangers, the camp offers 260 sites. Visitors are reminded all public safety protocols remain in place and must be followed, including wearing a mask when entering any lake property. The Army Corps of Engineers has said in recent years the lake has become increasingly popular, offering a wide variety of activities for visitors.
