Duffy's pinch-hit lifts Cubs over Pirates 3-2

CHICAGO (AP) — Pinch-hitter Matt Duffy had a go-ahead single in the seventh inning, reliever Keegan Thompson pitched three scoreless innings for his first major league victory and the Chicago Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 for their fifth straight win. Willson Contreras and Eric Sogard each drove in a run for Chicago, which has won seven of nine to improve to 17-16. Thompson allowed two hits and a walk following starter Trevor Williams, who gave up two runs and five hits in four innings.

SNAP doesn't cover costs of putting food on the table in 98% of counties: Report

(TND) — Federal food assistance falls far short of basic meal costs for the roughly 40 million Americans receiving the benefit, according to a new report from the Urban Institute. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits didn’t cover the cost of a modestly priced meal in at least 98% of counties last year, according to the report published this week. The average modestly priced meal cost $3.37 at the end of last year, 19% more than the average maximum SNAP benefit of $2.

Sundaes with Santa at the Johnstown Area Heritage Association bring in the holiday season

The Johnstown Area Heritage Association hosted their 2nd annual Sundaes with Santa event on Sunday. Scores of kids along with their parents had the opportunity to enjoy some festive ice cream sundaes courtesy of Galliker’s along with a chat with Santa and some seasonal crafts inside of the heritage center. But most importantly the kids were able to see inside of the Johnstown Children’s Museum as a part of this unique experience.

Water break damages part of Windber's historic Arcadia Theater

WINDBER, Pa. (WJAC) — Residents of Windber, Somerset County, may have seen firetrucks outside of the Arcadia Theater on Graham Ave. Wednesday evening. The theater is home to many performances and plays. According to theater officials, a sprinkler pipe broke in the generator room causing water to soak many parts of the historic building. The dressing rooms took the brunt of the water damage. Now, they're working with limited electricity and seeing what equipment needs replaced as they assess the damages.
