Longtime WJAC-TV anchor Tim Rigby announces retirement

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — After decades in broadcast television, WJAC-TV anchor Tim Rigby is retiring. Rigby made the announcement on Thursday evening's 6 p.m. broadcast. He said his final broadcast will be Thursday, Aug. 4, at 6 p.m. He started in the industry in May of 1981. After spending more than three decades as WJAC's sports director, Rigby returned to WJAC in 2015 as a morning news anchor before joining Jen Johnson on the evening news every weekday.

Officials demolish bridge damaged in fiery crash that kept I-95 in Connecticut closed

NORWALK, Conn. (AP) — A bridge damaged in a fiery crash that kept Interstate 95 in Connecticut closed Thursday and Friday has been demolished. A live camera operated by the Connecticut Department of Transportation on Saturday showed excavators and bucket loaders scooping up rubble from the destroyed Fairfield Avenue overpass above I-95 in Norwalk and dumping it into large containers and dump trucks to be hauled away. Crews started tearing down the bridge on Friday morning and work, including the repaving of damaged parts of the roadway, was expected to last through the weekend.

What led to fatal shooting of CO at Blair County court building? Docs provide new details

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — A criminal complaint is providing more details about what led to a shooting Wednesday at the Central Court building in Altoona that claimed the life of a corrections officer. Authorities were called to the court facility, located at 615 4th Street, just after 3 p.m. for reports of shots fired and an officer down. Crews responded to find that 47-year-old Rhonda Russell had been shot in the holding area.

Appeal to prohibit asphalt plant in Richland Twp. granted

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — It's been years in the making, but the fate of a proposed asphalt plant in Richland Township was decided Tuesday in the Cambria County Court of Common Pleas. More than two dozen residents who live near the proposed site appealed the Richland zoning board's decision to allow Quaker Sales Corporation to build an asphalt plant off of mine 37 road. In their appeal, residents cited several concerns, including odors and sound emanating from the plant, traffic congestion, and more.

Attorney General's Office takes over rape case against Somerset County DA

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Somerset County District Attorney Jeff Thomas has spent a lot of time inside the courtrooms of the Somerset County Courthouse. But Friday, he was in the defense chair as the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office moved to take over the rape case against him. The judge made that part official in the brief hearing Friday afternoon. Thomas, through his attorney, also confirmed Friday that he will be taking a temporary leave of absence while the case plays out.
