Smoke from wildfires prompts air quality alert for majority of our region

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Smoke from Canadian wildfires has been bringing our area smoky, hazy sunshine for the past few days, and now it is impacting our air quality. Air Quality Alerts were issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday for the majority of West-Central Pennsylvania. What this means is, air pollution concentrations within our region are unhealthy for all groups. The general public may experience mild health effects such as headaches, irritated eyes, fatigue, and coughing.

Ann's Pizza under 'ongoing legal process' closes stores

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Ann's Pizza in Johnstown appears to have closed its doors. WJAC visited both locations on Bedford Street and Ferndale Avenue and found the lights off and the doors locked. At the location on Ferndale Ave., an order by a Cambria County judge for possession for the property was on the door. The document showed it was filed on Sept. 27, and the store had been closed for weeks.

California wildlife officials remove mountain lion from shed after it eats turkey

Hesperia, CA — In Southern California, a mountain lion caused quite the scare for a family after devouring their turkey. After its meal, the mountain lion then took a nap in their shed, forcing the family to call wildlife control. "He was literally laying in the middle of the shed,” says homeowner Judy Vasquez. It was a terrifying moment for this family when Judy Vasquez says she heard some rustling in her mom's backyard shed and saw these two big yellow eyes staring back.

Death of controversial football icon OJ Simpson sparks mixed reactions

(TND) — Many immediately reacted after the family of O.J. Simpson announced their loved one's death on Thursday. The 76-year-old died after battling prostate cancer. Simpson was a decorated football star and actor whose fame took a turn when he was charged with the murders of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. Simpson was acquitted of murdering Brown Simpson and Goldman in a trial that captivated Americans across the country.

Johnstown Motel set to be condemned

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Towne Manor motel in Johnstown has been condemned by city officials for what they call poor living conditions. The legal notice was posted on the motel doors Monday afternoon and now residents have just forty-eight hours to leave. About a dozen people have been staying in The Towne Manor motel - just off route 56 in downtown Johnstown. “Almost everybody in here is homeless,” says Jeff Crowder who currently is a resident of the motel.
