Officials with Penn State say it takes time to find the right artist to perform at one of the biggest venues in America. After seeing the success Luke Combs had at Beaver Stadium on Saturday night, they say they are going to try and do this more often.
“Beaver Stadium is iconic, and a great place to see football, and now a concert,” said Bryce Jordan Center General Manager Al Karosas.
With a seating capacity of more than 106,000 Penn State’s Beaver Stadium is the second-largest stadium in the United States. More than 80,000 people came to watch country artist Luke Combs perform on Saturday in what he says was his biggest show ever.
“In our industry, you’re only as good as your last event, that’s a pretty good event to have as your last event, so I think it’s going to open some doors that maybe we’re a little bit more difficult to open,” said Karosas.
Karosas and the team at the Bryce Jordan Center, which hosted artists like Zach Bryan and Drake this year, worked with Athletic Director Pat Kraft and Penn State athletics to set this concert up. He says the success on Saturday night will help them host more like it in the future.
“My phone was just blowing up that night saying we’re hearing about this, we’re excited about this, can’t wait to see how it turns out, and it’s almost like a marketing tool for me,” said Karosas.
He says any event, but especially something as big as this concert, is great for Centre County and the local businesses.
“The economic impact on the community is at the forefront of why we do these things,” said Karosas. “To know that the bars, and the restaurants, and the hotels were completely full and overflowing at a time when maybe there’s not a lot of revenue streaming into the community, it was a great opportunity for that,” he continued.
Karosas didn’t give any specifics on who might be performing at Beaver Stadium next or when the next concert will be but said he does think there will be another show in the near future.
