Large group of people, some armed, gather near Bedford County Courthouse

BEDFORD, Pa. (WJAC) A large group of people gathered outside the courthouse in Bedford County Tuesday night. Those who gathered told 6 News they were there in response to an incident that happened Monday night involving activists who were marching from Wisconsin to Washington D.C.

Those who gathered told 6 News they were there in response to an incident that happened Monday night involving activists who were marching from Wisconsin to Washington D.C.

Troopers say local residents confronted the activists Monday night which led to both sides exchanging gunfire and one of the activists getting shot.

Tuesday evening, some of the people that gathered told 6 News they were there to support the local residents who allegedly exchanged gunfire with the activists Monday night.

Armed residents stood on the corners of the intersection of Penn and South Juliana streets.

One resident said he plans to stay near the courthouse all night until “they” come, although he did not specifically say who he was referring to.

Pennsylvania State Police and Bedford Police were seen patrolling the area.
