Authorities say a truck driver was killed when a tractor-trailer drove off an overpass outside of Dallas Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators say the truck landed on a service road below and burst into flames, and the whole incident was caught on video.

Nothing could have prepared Anthony Reid and his wife Renee for what they witnessed Tuesday.

"It was like slow motion, the truck coming down. You can't believe there's a truck coming down off the bridge and then boom."

They were at the intersection when an 18-wheeler suddenly flew off of U.S. 75 near Stacy Road, catching fire as it plummeted and then burst into flames.

"The first thing I said was the driver. Where's the driver? The driver."

The couple racing, along with others, to try and save the driver, but their efforts were futile as he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"My husband was like; we have to go try to help. And I was like, I don't know if we can do anything."

Local police say the semi reportedly collided with a car that was in front of it.

Investigators say the driver was unharmed and was seen cooperating with police, but it's not known who was at fault.

"The cargo of this truck pretty obvious; Letters and packages, some with the words USPS on the side."

A postal service employee was on scene taking pictures, but it's not known if the truck belonged to the agency or if the driver worked for them.

"People started coming out of their cars to see if they could go help, but there was just no way."

Edith Pearson was turning northbound on the service road when the crash happened, and the truck fell in front of her.

"I went home, and I just started crying. I felt like my life; I felt like I died with that person because it was so close."

She and so many others thinking one thing, life is so precious.

Police said they are not releasing the name of the victim until notifications can be made.
