Coroner IDs victim of fatal Route 22 crash; victim's dog also injured & was euthanized

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) Authorities in Cambria County are providing new details on Thursday's fatal crash that shut down Route 22 westbound, near Ebensburg, for several hours. Cambria County coroner Jeff Lees identified the victim as 77-year-old Richard Dow, of Ebensburg.

Investigators say Dow suffered massive blunt force trauma to his head and chest when his SUV was struck by a tri-axle truck near the Unimart intersection.

Authorities also noted that the victim's family dog, a Maltese Poodle, was inside the vehicle at the time of the crash and suffered injuries that resulted in it having to be euthanized.

Two Cambria County sheriff's deputies were also injured in the crash, after being struck by the tri-axle, and have since been treated and released from local hospitals.

Authorities say what led to the collision is still under investigation.

Authorities have confirmed that one person was killed and three others were injured, including two sheriff's deputies, after a tri-axle truck collided with an SUV along Route 22 westbound in Ebensburg.

Officials say the crash occurred just after noon when the tri-axle struck an SUV that was turning onto the highway from South Center Street, near the Unimart intersection.

Authorities say the tri-axle then struck a sheriff's deputy vehicle that was in the opposite left-hand turn lane.

Investigators say one person inside the SUV was killed and another individual inside the vehicle was transported.

Officials say the two sheriff's deputies were also transported from the scene with injuries. They have since been treated and released.

The condition of the other individual in the SUV is still unknown.

A state police crash reconstruction team was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the crash.

The Cambria County coroner's office has been called to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash along Route 22 westbound in Ebensburg.

Officials on scene say the roadway will be closed for an extended period of time.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area of South Center Street and Wilmore Road, near the Unimart light.

911 officials say the crash was reported just after noon.

Two other individuals were also reportedly transported from the scene.
