Organizers say the Altoona police and fire department have had a long running rivalry on the ice.

Each year the departments play one another in a hockey game to raise money for various charities.

Proceeds from this year's Guns vs. Hoses event are going to Blair Family Services Inc. The organization runs several shelters within the city and provides services for victims of crimes including rape and domestic violence.

"It's just great to give back to them, especially the people at are in need," said Altoona firefighter, Ben Barstow.

The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Galactic Ice, and the cost of admission is donation based. There will be basket raffles and an auction for further fundraising.
