Police say one person has been charged so far following a shots fired incident in the Hornerstown section of Johnstown.

According to a criminal complaint, 21-year-old Bryce Gibson has been charged with aggravated assault, flight to avoid apprehension and recklessly endangering another person in relation to the incident.

The shots fired incident happened just after noon Sunday on the 200 block of Cedar Street according to police.

Police say they interviewed Gibson at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center where he was being treated for an injury to his thumb.

Gibson told police that he was walking down the hill from Family Dollar when he heard several gunshots.

He said he immediately fell to the ground to protect himself, according to the complaint.

Gibson told police he started running after he heard the gunshots stop and that’s when he was stopped by police and taken to the hospital.

He said he didn’t know what happened to his thumb, according to the criminal complaint.

At the scene of the shots fired incident, police say they interviewed two witnesses who told officers that they had heard the gunshots before seeing two men, both wearing parkas, running away.

The witnesses said that one of the men dropped a black gun and the other picked it up as they ran away, according to the complaint.

Police say the description of the jackets that the witnesses gave matched the look of a jacket that Gibson was wearing when he was picked up by police.

Gibson is currently being lodged in the Cambria County Prison.
